Ousted Kalamazoo Township treasurer reverses course, asks to be removed from ballot

KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The former Kalamazoo Township treasurer who last week insisted to reporters that she was running to get back the seat from which she resigned has apparently changed her mind.

In a letter dated Monday and addressed to the Kalamazoo Township clerk, Sherine Miller said she wanted to pull her name off the August ballot. She cited a brewing legal battle over her candidacy stemming from the deal she made with the township to resign.

“…(I)n consideration of the Township’s stated intention to begin immediate legal action challenging my right to be on the ballot, and the uncertainty that any such legal action would create, I request the Kalamazoo Township Clerk and Board disqualify and strike my name from the ballot,” Miller wrote.
