More than 50k Consumers Energy customers wake up with no power following high winds Monday evening

JACKSON, Mich. — Powerful winds caused widespread damage to trees, homes, power lines and more Monday night, causing more than 80,000 Consumers Energy customers to lose power.

The utility company said that it has already restored power to 30,000 customers since last night’s outages. Consumers Energy said they have over 500 crews working to restore the power to customers.

“We’re very encouraged by our crews’ progress and expect to continue our momentum through the day today,” said Norm Kapala, one of Consumers Energy’s officers in charge for restoration. “Our coworkers in the field are committed to a safe restoration for our customers and are working efficiently for the communities we serve.”…
