Union City homeowner says neighbors, volunteers sped up rebuilding after March 6 tornadoes

UNION CITY, Mich. — Nearly two months after a deadly tornado outbreak tore through southwest Michigan, recovery efforts are shifting from cleanup to rebuilding, with new federal assistance now available to help residents and businesses move forward.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved a disaster declaration for Branch, Cass and St. Joseph counties following the March 6 storms, which killed four people and caused widespread damage across the region.

The declaration also makes assistance available in contiguous counties, including Berrien, Calhoun, Hillsdale, Kalamazoo and Van Buren…
