Argentina’s World Cup training brings business boost to Kansas City, Kansas restaurants

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – Argentina’s national soccer team may be training behind closed gates, but the excitement is spilling into nearby restaurants as fans from across the country arrive weeks before the World Cup begins.

Since the reigning world champions arrived last Saturday, businesses along the corridor near Sporting Kansas City’s training facility have seen an influx of visitors wearing jerseys and asking about upcoming events.

Anejo, a family-owned Mexican restaurant that opened at its current location just one year ago, is among those preparing for the surge.

“We’ve definitely seen a lot of different traffic from different people around the states come in with their jerseys,” said Jaquelinne Ortiz, co-owner of Anejo.

Restaurants staff up for expected crowds

Ortiz said the restaurant is hiring more employees and may extend hours to accommodate late-night crowds. The business is also planning tailgate events in its parking lot, which sits across from the Sporting KC campus…
