‘People aren’t out:’ Local businesses report sales drop amid World Cup

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Small business owners are sharing similar feelings – not all are seeing the big business boost they anticipated at this time.

“I had staff standing for the past four days. It’s been dead in here,” local business owner Caitlin Benedict said. “When people are out, more people come out. When people don’t, everyone stays at home.”Benedict took her feelings online. After posting about it, people showed up. She hopes it continues, and happens for other businesses.

She wonders how scary next month may be, in relation to sales and foot traffic.
