KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Saturday marks 4 years since an Amtrak train crash in Missouri killed four people and injured over 150 others.
On June 27, 2022, an Amtrak train hit a dump truck at an uncontrolled railroad crossing in Mendon, Missouri, causing both locomotives and all eight passenger railcars to derail.

People living in the area at the time said they’d complained about the crossing for years. There’s only a stop sign and a railroad crossing sign, no crossing arms, warning lights or bells. Residents said it was steep and difficult to see if a train was coming until it was too late.
The NTSB determined the probable cause of the crash was the truck driver, 54-year-old Bill Barton II, proceeding for unknown reasons into the crossing without stopping despite the stop sign at the crossing and an approaching train. Barton died in the crash…
