Kansas City Plan Commission Advances 90-Acre Ballpark District Zoning Change near Crown Center

If you live, rent, or own property in the corridor bounded by Pershing Road to the north, Gillham Road to the east, East 27th Street to the south, and Main Street to the west, the zoning map of your neighborhood just changed in a significant way.

Kansas City’s City Plan Commission voted 6-0 to rezone approximately 90 acres of that corridor for a new ballpark district, according to the commission’s meeting minutes from its August 5 hearing. The rezoning shifts land previously designated under districts UR, B4-5, and M1-5 into a new ballpark district classification—signaling what kinds of development the city expects to see there for decades to come.
