Seven sentenced in Kansas City, Kansas, meth trafficking ring tied to Mexican cartel

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — After a six-year investigation, seven men have been sentenced to federal prison, including one from Kansas City, Kansas, in connection with a Mexican cartel drug trafficking ring that brought methamphetamines to the metro.

In January 2020, agents with the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) launched an investigation into a methamphetamine trafficking operation run by 46-year-old Jose Santos Macias Roman — a Mexican national residing illegally in the United States after overstaying his visa.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office – District of Kansas, Macia Roman led the operation, which brought liquid methamphetamine from Sinaloa, Mexico, to the Kansas City, Kansas, area.

It was later learned through multiple controlled methamphetamine purchases between February 2020 and July 2023 that the traffickers had been converting the drugs from liquid form to a crystal form before they were delivered to customers…
