If you have Cigna Healthcare insurance and you receive care at any HCA Midwest Health hospital in the Kansas City metropolitan area, your coverage changed as of May 1, 2026. HCA Midwest Health — the region’s largest healthcare provider with seven hospitals, more than 150 locations across Missouri and Kansas, and a local economic impact of over $1.3 billion annually — was unable to reach a new contract agreement with Cigna Healthcare before an April 30 deadline, and its hospitals are now out of network for Cigna commercial plan members.

The two organizations had been negotiating for months. HCA Midwest maintained a dedicated patient-facing page on its website notifying Cigna members of the potential coverage change, and made clear that if no agreement was reached by April 30, its hospitals, free-standing emergency rooms, and ambulatory surgery centers would leave the Cigna Healthcare network. No deal was announced before that deadline. As of the morning of May 1, the dispute remains unresolved.
