FRANKLIN COUNTY – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday evening in Ottawa, according to a media release from the agency.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., law enforcement officers from the Ottawa Police Department Special Tactics and Rescue Team, a combined unit of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Ottawa Police Department, attempted to serve a warrant on a homicide suspect out of Kansas City, Missouri. The warrant was being served at a multi-unit residence in the 500 block of South Locust Street in Ottawa.
During the initial approach, the suspect fired from within the residence, striking an Ottawa police officer. The officer sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported by ambulance to a Kansas City area hospital, where he is being treated and is expected to recover…
