ORLANDO, Fla. – Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood took to social media to accuse prosecutors in Orange and Osceola counties of being too lenient with a teen who is now accused of killing two people in DeLand.
But the state attorney who runs the Ninth Judicial Circuit, Monique Worrell, says the real problem is the juvenile justice system in Florida.
“We have a juvenile justice system that is wholly inadequate to deal with violent offense committed by children, and unless we stop throwing political daggers back and forth with each other and come together to talk about a real solution that could help to make our community safer, then we are going to be on the other end of these cameras on a continuing basis, talking about the next event that took place,” Worrell told News 6 at a news conference Thursday…
