KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A rezoning request in East Knox County is sparking debate. Commissioners ultimately voted down a proposal in the Carter Community after hearing concerns from residents.
The property in question sits between two major roads, Rutledge Pike and Asheville Highway. After county commissioners denied the rezoning request, the conversation quickly shifted beyond the potential development and started focusing on how the community wants future growth and development handled moving forward.

“We’re definitely not against development, but we want the right kind of development that fits the area’s needs, and a 12-unit apartment does not meet our needs at all. We need to put a little more thought into this, and a little more planning,” explained Larry Acuff, a Carter Community Member.
