KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A man who is already serving life in prison for a murder conviction in the death of Danishka Mejia, has been sentenced for the remaining counts he was convicted of.
Deputy District Attorney Sean McDermott said on Aug. 5, 2026, Marquis Ellis was sentenced to life in prison plus 100 years for the following:
- Aggravated burglary in concert
- Aggravated burglary
- Two counts of attempted first-degree murder
- Attempted second-degree murder
- Employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony
- Especially aggravated kidnapping
- Robbery
- Delivery of fentanyl
- Setting fire to personal property
- Tampering with evidence
On March 16, 2026, Ellis was sentenced to life in prison on a first-degree murder charge.
“The DA’s Office successfully argued for both consecutive sentences and enhanced sentences because the defendant is a dangerous offender with a prior criminal history who treated the victim with exceptional cruelty,” McDermott said…
