Death row inmate Christa Pike to watch next week’s Knox County hearing by remote video

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Christa Gail Pike, the only woman on Tennessee’s death row, won’t appear in person next week in Knox County when her lawyers challenge the state’s lethal injection method.

Instead, she’ll watch the proceedings by video from the Nashville prison where she’s held.

Both state attorneys and her legal team agreed to scrub her planned transfer to Knoxville for the hearing, set to start Tuesday before Senior Judge W. Mark Ward, records show. Pike also waived her right to be physically present. It’ll be in the same building where a Knox County jury convicted her of murder in 1996…
