KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Nearly three years after a Knoxville area plumber was fatally shot, a man has been indicted on charges including first-degree murder, Knoxville Police announced Friday.
According to KPD, Jermal Cannon, 31, was arrested Thursday on charges of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, solicitation of first-degree murder and felony theft. After a yearslong investigation led by KPD’s Homicide Unit detectives, a Knox County Grand Jury recently indicted Cannon on charges in connection to the 2023 shooting death of Chris Hill.
Drug used in failed execution has come under past scrutiny
On December 13, 2023, Knoxville Police responded to the 200 block of E. Depot Avenue, where they found Hill, a local plumber, shot multiple times and lying unresponsive next to a box truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time, Knoxville Police said there was strong evidence that the shooting was targeted, but the reasons for that remained under investigation.
