Tracking 2 rounds of showers and storms this week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Some welcomed rain over the weekend helped the drought some, but we remain over 5″ of rain below average since the start of the year. This week comes with two additional rounds of showers/storms which not only comes with a chance for some spicy storms, but should provide some relief in the drought.

TODAY: A mix of sun and clouds ahead of more active weather tonight. So if you’re trying to take advantage of it, today is a great day for it! Breezy with highs in the low 80s.

TUESDAY: Two big waves of showers and thunderstorms will push through Tuesday and into Wednesday. Here’s what you need to know:

Round 1 – Rain and storms push through overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. Right now, storms look to arrive as early as 2am on the Cumberland Plateau, before exiting by 8am. A Level 1 out of 5 Marginal Risk is in place for the Cumberland Plateau. Overall a low severe risk, but there could be a few storms with very gusty winds.

Round 2 – We will get a brief break from the rain from late morning through the afternoon and evening hours. Second round of rain and thunderstorms return Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. A Level 2 out of 5 Slight Risk is in effect for areas west of I-75 with a Level 1 Marginal Risk everywhere else. As of right now, damaging winds look to be the primary threat…
