OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — The Coalition of Oak Ridge Retired Employees (CORRE) focuses on retirement benefits for those receiving pensions from companies contracted by the Department of Energy.
They said over 15,000 people who have retired from Y-12, K-25 or ORNL who were not federal employees have not seen a cost-of-living adjustment in their pension since 2001. CORRE says that due to inflation, many of these people are struggling to make ends meet.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the cost of housing, food and medical care are 120% higher than they were when the last cost-of-living increase was made for these retirees, and CORRE said this costs people more than they can afford…
