OPELOUSAS, LA. (KLFY) — Multiple families are raising concerns about conditions at Garden of Memory Cemetery in Opelousas after discovering damaged gravesites, missing headstones and disturbed ground while visiting loved ones.
Families who visited the cemetery around Mother’s Day said they were met with uprooted trees, broken markers and track marks cutting through parts of the property. Darrell Nichols said he went to visit his mother’s grave, only to find the area torn up and her headstone missing.
“My mom was buried here right somewhere right here. And I came here for Mother’s Day. And it was just a mess,” Nichols said. “He took a bulldozer, and he passed over all these graves. And I would like to know where my mama spot is right now, because the dirt is everywhere around here.”…
