POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 56-year-old bicyclist died Sunday night after being struck from behind by a pickup truck near Sunshine Avenue and Reynolds Road in Lakeland, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The collision happened around 9:10 p.m. on Sept. 13, 2026. Investigators said 60-year-old Mario Matias was driving a Ford F-150 northbound on Reynolds Road when he hit the back left wheel of the northbound bicycle. The bicycle was equipped with working lights at the time of the impact. The collision threw the rider from the bike onto the shoulder of the road.
Emergency crews treated the bicyclist at the scene and took him to a local hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead on arrival…
