Grab a strawberry milkshake or a Cuban from this Gem of Tampa Bay

LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — Strawberry season is here, and if you have been craving something sweet, check out this Gem in Polk County that is also known for its savory bites.

It is called Strawberry Hut and their sit-down location is at 743 E. Memorial Boulevard in Lakeland.

Some popular menu items include a variety of Cuban sandwiches, strawberry shortcake, milkshakes, salads and Spanish bean soup.

Locally owned by Betty and Troy Wilson, the spot first opened up with a location in Plant City back in 1993.

The spot was inspired by Troy’s parents’ Cuban sandwich shop.

“He grew up watching them make the Cuban sandwiches through the windows,” Betty explained. “His dad would take him down and set him up there and let him watch them.”

In 2015, the couple decided to open a bigger restaurant in Lakeland where customers could eat inside.

“I’ve actually had customers say, ‘We go for breakfast in Plant City and we come for lunch in Lakeland, cause we work in Lakeland’,” Betty Wilson said.
