1 in critical condition after 10-acre Hillsborough County brush fire

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A person was hospitalized after a 10-acre brush fire broke out in Hillsborough County Friday afternoon, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

An HCFR release stated that the fire broke out in the area of Gray Road in Lithia at 2:35 p.m.

Multiple 911 calls came in about the rapidly growing fire. As units arrived, they saw a column of smoke visible from a large distance.

“Firefighters immediately worked to protect nearby homes threatened by the advancing fire, successfully preventing damage to surrounding structures,” the release stated. “HCFR deployed several brush trucks and water tankers to combat the blaze. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office assisted with aerial water drops utilizing Bambi bucket operations, while the Florida Forest Service established plow lines to help contain the fire’s spread.”

No firefighters were injured in the response, but one person, a civilian, was hospitalized in critical condition…
