Wildlife center works to keep animals cool, safe from poor air quality amid rehabilitation

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Hot and hazy conditions may be prompting some people to stay inside, but not every living thing has that option.

That’s why things like ice chips, hoses and blankets for shade are so important right now at the Raven Ridge Wildlife Center in Lancaster County, which has about 75 animals recovering outside, in addition to the 50 kept indoors.

“We have the heat, we have the humidity, now we have the air quality,” said Tracie Young, founder of the wildlife center. “Some of these animals that are already inhibited by other injuries, they’re already having breathing issues. We need to monitor them or bring them in.”…
