Springettsbury Township Police are asking the public for help identifying two suspects tied to a retail theft at the Sheetz convenience store at 3998 E. Market St. The theft happened on July 18, roughly three weeks before investigators went public with their appeal on Friday and Saturday.
According to Newport Dispatch, police say two suspects were involved in the theft and are asking anyone with information to contact Cpl. Schauer by phone at 717-757-3525 or by email. The department has not released further details about what was taken or how the suspects were caught on camera, and no additional information was available at this time, per the same report.
A Familiar Address for Shoplifting Calls
This isn’t the first time the E. Market Street Sheetz has drawn police attention. Records posted to Springettsbury Township Police Department’s CRIMEWATCH page show separate retail theft charges filed at the same store in May, September, and November of 2025, involving stolen candy, general merchandise, and wine. The pattern suggests the location has become something of a recurring target for shoplifters, even as this latest case remains unsolved.
The department, based out of headquarters at 1501 Mount Zion Road, handled 20,817 police call units across York County in 2025, according to figures from YorkCountyPA.gov. That same headquarters also hosts a monitored, 24-hour Safe Exchange Zone in its parking lot, intended to give residents a secure spot for online transactions and to deter local property crime, per Trinity Law.
What Pennsylvania Law Says About Retail Theft
Under Pennsylvania’s retail theft statute, 18 Pa.C.S. § 3929, taking or concealing merchandise, swapping price tags, or switching containers to avoid paying full price all qualify as retail theft.
