Rare WWII aircraft to take flight over eastern Pa. as beloved airshow celebrates anniversary

The Mid-Atlantic Air Museum will celebrate the 35th anniversary of its World War II Weekend on June 5-7, at Reading Regional Airport, bringing rare aircraft and living history displays to the former General Carl A. Spaatz Army Airfield, according to a news release.

The event, ranked the second-best airshow in the U.S. by USA TODAY polling, will feature the Commemorative Air Force’s Airbase Arizona participating for the first time. The Arizona-based group will fly two historic bombers: the B-25 “Maid in the Shade” and the B-17 “Sentimental Journey.”

The B-17 “Sentimental Journey” is one of only two B-17s still flying in the United States. Based in Mesa, Arizona, the aircraft will make its first appearance on the East Coast since 2024 and its first return to World War Two Weekend since 2021…
