LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum has completed the review of submitted signatures to recall Mason Councilwoman Elaine Ferris and has approved the measure’s placement on the November ballot.
A political recall is the process by which citizens vote to remove an elected official before the end of their term, according to Ballotpedia. Elected officials can be recalled for various reasons. In this instance, the petition to recall Ferris came after resident backlash against Mason officials over a proposed data center project.
Part of that process included an attempt to create a zoning ordinance to restrict and limit what data centers can do, their appearance and noise level and other regulatory issues. Those ordinance changes were ultimately repealed.
Petition sponsors submitted 1,527 signatures to Byrum’s office, and 1,409 were deemed to be valid. The petitions needed a minimum of 1,000 signatures to move forward in the recall process…
