EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — People gathered in East Lansing for the Salaam Peace Festival Saturday afternoon.
For the fifth year in a row, the Islamic Center of East Lansing brought people of all faiths and cultures together to play games, eat food, and learn something new.
“This has really, really grown over the past few years,” said Giget Schlyer-Niazi, a volunteer. ”It seems like every year that I’m here, there’s more and more people, which is amazing to see.”
Organizers say the goal is to open the conversation about Islam to the community by inviting them in.
“People are learning how they’re asking questions.” Said Thasin Sardar, on of the organizers. “We have a poster exhibit. We have information tables. We have a quiz table with rewards for people who just want to have fun.”…
