Las Vegas realtor brings new attention to not-so-new tax cap increases

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A real estate agent in Las Vegas is sounding alarms on social media and elsewhere, warning homeowners their tax bill may be too high.

Clark County follows state law, which allows the county to raise property taxes each year up to 8%. That amount ensures landlords and investors – as well as owners of commercial property, among others – pay an appropriate amount of taxes. Owner-occupants, therefore, are entitled to keep the property tax increase at a 3% cap if they fill out a form with the county assessor. The county sends homeowners mail each year to explain this information.

But Kristine Moran, a realtor in Summerlin for the last eight-plus years, said she found out some of her customers – and even her best friend – were paying the higher amount.
