Cyclosporiasis outbreak in Kentucky: Lexington locals, businesses respond

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – The Kentucky Department for Public Health says the state is among at least 17 states experiencing an increase in cyclosporiasis cases amid a nationwide outbreak. The state is investigating 100 reported cases, with 55 confirmed so far.

The department issued a health alert Tuesday about the outbreak, which has prompted concern among Lexington residents.

Audrey Lindsey, who recently returned from visiting family in Michigan — a state seeing a large number of cases — said multiple relatives became ill.

“You don’t really hear about it in your family or whatever, but then my aunt got sick and then we heard another aunt of mine got sick after we left and a cousin of mine and her husband got sick and so it was going around,” Lindsey said…
