PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) – Reports began circulating recently about layoffs impacting more than a dozen employees at the Lexington Herald- Leader. That move, reportedly made by its parent company McClatchy Media, has placed a host of journalists in limbo. While they worry for their future, some also worry about the implications of the cuts and how they impact the future of newspaper journalism in the Commonwealth.
McClatchy Media is under the ownership of Chatham Asset Management, a hedge fund corporation, and reporters say the writing has been on the wall for some time about the stability of the paper.
“I’m not blind to the economic factors that make it harder to produce journalism worldwide.
