Adam Zouagui probably didn’t expect to be Kentucky’s starting kicker when he transferred in from South Florida. Jacob Kauwe held that role last year, but an injury to Kauwe during fall camp thrust Zouagui into the spotlight. The former USF and Davidson kicker started Kentucky’s first three games, going 3-of-4 on field goal attempts, the most recent make being the biggest, a career-long 52-yard kick to seal the Cats’ win over No. 9 Texas A&M.
Does that mean the job is Zouagui’s to lose? What’s the latest on Kauwe? At today’s press conference, Will Stein said Zouagui and Kauwe are competing in practice, but he’s been very impressed by Zouagui so far this season.
“[Adam] was just literally banging kicks through all fall camp, and Jacob was battling a little something during camp, and it just got to the point where he was back, and you know, it was hard to really give that up. And so we’ve tried to create competition. Even today, I had them both go out there and kick. Jacob is an elite kicker, right? Adam has done an elite job so far.”…
