WATCH LIVE: Severe threat increasing for Friday evening and night across eastern Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Friday is now a Weather Alert Day as the threat for severe weather increases across eastern Nebraska. If you’re planning to celebrate the Fourth of July, Mother Nature may have her own fireworks display in mind.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued an Enhanced risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe storms potential across eastern Nebraska, including Lincoln and Omaha.

The primary threat will be damaging wind gusts (75 mph+), with secondary threats including heavy rain, large hail up to two inches in diameter, and isolated tornadoes.

This forecast comes as a concern for the Uncle Sam Jam in Lincoln, which was already pushed back an hour to 6 p.m. due to heat and humidity. Keep an eye out for how this forecast may influence Fourth of July festivities happening Friday night.

Thursday Night: The First Round

Before Friday’s main event, a Severe T-Storm Watch has been issued for southwestern Nebraska until midnight. Large hail and strong winds are the main concern.

Storms then developing around the South Dakota border will threaten northeast Nebraska with large hail, damaging winds, and the possibility of an isolated tornado.

Friday: The Main Event

An Enhanced risk for severe weather Friday afternoon and evening will be strong storms will be capable of damaging winds, large hail, heavy rain, and a tornado or two.
