Fundraiser to help Lincoln father’s dream of creating an autism mobile calming unit happening Saturday

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Chris Szydelko has been advocating for the autistic community for years. He has a son with autism and has experienced what it’s like for someone to become overwhelmed and not have a safe space readily available.

That’s why he created the nonprofit Autism Support Unit LLC.

“When someone becomes overwhelmed, overstimulated, or has a crisis in a public setting, there often isn’t a safe, appropriate place for them to go to decompress. What might look like a behavioral issue from the outside can actually be someone experiencing extreme sensory overload, and families are often left trying to figure out what to do in the middle of that situation,” Szydelko said…
