Federal grant funds body camera upgrade for Lancaster County deputies

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office will use a $1.2 million federal grant to upgrade public safety technology used by deputies in the field.

The grant will provide 100 new body-worn camera systems. The LSO said the new technology will integrate with its radio system, helping deputies maintain reliable communication in areas of the county where radio coverage can be limited.

“This is an important investment in public safety and in the equipment our deputies depend on every day,” said Chief Deputy Ben Houchin. “Reliable radios and body-worn cameras are critical to officer safety, communication, accountability and the collection of evidence. This funding allows us to replace aging equipment, improve our capabilities and do it without putting the full cost on local taxpayers.”…
