Man found shot to death outside his running car in Hollywood identified

A man found dead next to his running vehicle in Hollywood early Friday morning has been identified as a 40-year-old Southern California native who had been working in the San Fernando Valley and living in Encino with family.

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the area of Yucca Street and La Baig Avenue just off the 101 Freeway and outside the First Presbyterian Church just after 1 a.m.

At the scene, police found the victim, identified by his family as Carlos Beltran, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

“They discovered the victim deceased in the road next to his running vehicle,” LAPD Det. Samuel Murillo said.

Authorities also said that the victim was found with all his belongings on him and that it didn’t appear as if anything had been stolen.

According to Beltran’s family, he had been working as a security guard in the Studio City and Burbank areas. He was supposed to work that night, but when his shift got cancelled, they said the 40-year-old, who was passionate about music and had recorded some songs in a downtown Los Angeles studio, instead went to meet a friend about some of his latest music.
