Rabid bat found in California city as officials issue urgent warning over human contagion risk

A rabies-infested bat has been discovered in the Pasadena neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, a situation that has prompted officials to issue warnings to residents to exercise caution.

“This is the first bat to test positive for rabies in Pasadena this year,” Director of Public Health Manuel Carmona said Thursday. “Community members should avoid contact with and immediately report injured, ill, or dead bats.”

The bat was found near the intersection of South Grand Avenue and Del Rosa Drive, according to KLTA5.
