Los Angeles has seen its share of police pursuits, but the one that unfolded on the evening of May 1, 2026, had all the ingredients of a Hollywood thriller, minus the stunt coordinator and safety nets. Four suspects, believed to be connected to an assault with a deadly weapon, led LAPD officers on a frantic, high-speed chase that wound through city streets, jumped onto the freeway, and ultimately ended in a foot chase near one of downtown’s most recognizable landmarks.
The pursuit began in the West Hollywood area, where officers first attempted to stop a BMW sedan carrying at least one person believed to be armed. Rather than pull over, the driver did the opposite, flooring it and turning L.A.’s surface streets into something resembling a very bad action movie audition. Wrong-way driving, blown signals, erratic weaving through traffic, it was the kind of behavior that turns a routine stop into a breaking news situation.
At some point during the chase, an unknown object was thrown from the moving vehicle.
