Popular kebab chain pauses beef sales after E. coli outbreak sickens 9 in California

A popular kebab restaurant chain with locations across Southern California has halted sales of one of its menu items nationwide after a California E. coli outbreak hospitalized five people, including children.

The California Department of Public Health said nine people in California became infected with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, or STEC, after consuming grilled beef kofta sold at The Kebab Shop. Six of the infected individuals are children, and two developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious complication that can lead to kidney failure.

No deaths have been reported…
