Louisville, Ky. (WAVE) — A 99-year-old WWII veteran from Bedford is set to receive a long-awaited honor more than eight decades after he was wounded in combat.
Glenn Fisher will finally be awarded the Purple Heart in a ceremony at the Frazier Kentucky History Museum in downtown Louisville. The medal will be presented by a representative of the U.S. Army’s Awards and Decorations Branch based at Fort Knox.
Fisher entered the Army as a teenager in 1943 after previously trying to enlist the day after Pearl Harbor. He eventually joined by changing his age with parental approval and was assigned to the 556th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Weapons Battalion…
