Most people who make the drive from Louisville out to Loretto have the same story to tell afterward. They walked the grounds, watched the bottles get dipped in red wax, bought something in the gift shop, and headed back down the road with a decent afternoon behind them. It is a good trip. Thousands of people take it every year, and almost nobody comes home disappointed.
But there has always been a version of that day that regular visitors never got to see. The gates close. The tour buses pull out. And what happens after that has been reserved for family, friends, and the occasional guest who knew somebody.
That is changing. Maker’s Mark and Mint Julep Experiences have put together something called the Samuels Family Legacy Experience, and it hands over the keys to the whole property for one evening at a time — with Bill Samuels Jr. and Rob Samuels along for the ride.
