LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A Louisville woman who sells Colombian jewelry at local festivals is raising money for an artist in Pereira, Colombia, after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck the city Monday.
Cristina Leon, an architect who also runs Nativas Market, a business selling Colombian jewelry made by artisans in her home country, said one of those artists — a woman named Susana — was displaced by the quake. Pereira was the city hardest hit by the earthquake.
Artist displaced, city damaged
Leon said Susana and members of her community have been living in the street after the earthquake damaged their home.
“Her and the rest of her community just stay on the street,” Leon said. “And it kind of has been like that because, like, the house part of the floor kind of like it’s not there anymore. And it’s risky for them to kind of like go back there.”…
