LUBBOCK, Texas — Princeton Ugwu, 27, was arrested on Thursday and charged with criminally negligent homicide after an alleged incident of drunk driving in 2023 led to the deaths of two Lubbock residents.
According to court documents, on December 9, 2023, at approximately 7:22 p.m., Angela Bray was working as an Uber driver with Rodrigo Torres in the back right passenger seat. Bray was traveling westbound in the 1000 block of 58th Street, approaching South Ave Q Drive. While intoxicated, Ugwu’s vehicle was approaching South Avenue Q Drive from 58th Street.
Court documents indicate that Bray approached a stop sign at the intersection of South Ave Q and 58th Street and began to accelerate when Ugwu’s vehicle struck the driver’s side of Bray’s vehicle at what court documents said was an approximate speed of 109 mph. The momentum of the crash caused Bray’s vehicle to hit two parked vehicles before coming to a rest, and Ugwu’s vehicle struck a parked vehicle. Bray and Torres were pronounced deceased at the scene.

When authorities arrived on scene, officers determined that Ugwu was intoxicated and deemed him unable to operate a motor vehicle in public.
