LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock Police Department is debuting a Blue Light Emergency Phone outside LPD Headquarters, located at 1205 15th Street, while adjusting public lobby and front desk hours, according to a press release.
Effective Friday, September 4, officials say the public lobby and front desk at LPD Headquarters will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. During overnight hours, the Blue Light Emergency Phone will provide the public a direct connection to LPD’s Emergency Communications Center.
Police say the change follows months of research showing very few people use the lobby during those overnight hours. The Blue Light Phone will be located outside the building. Residents can use the phone for emergencies if they do not have access to a cell phone.
LPD officials say this change is part of an ongoing effort to improve operational efficiency and responsibly manage taxpayer dollars. Police say the overnight officer who would normally staff the front desk will instead be deployed on patrol…
