LUBBOCK, Texas — A Lubbock grandfather, Kimberly Hozempa, is currently serving his sentence for unintentionally shooting and killing the friend of his grandson, as of August 31.
EverythingLubbock.com previously reported that officers responded to reports of a shots-fired call in the 500 block of North Flint Street around 4:25 p.m. on December 22, 2020.

An arrest warrant stated that Hozempa was attempting to clean his gun when it discharged. The bullet went through a wall and hit the victim, later identified as Elijah Morin, 16. The warrant said in part, “[Hozempa] acknowledged that he had not followed basic firearm safety rules, which resulted in Morin being shot and killed.”

Hozempa previously pleaded guilty to criminal negligent homicide in 2024 and was required to spend 30 days of jail time spread out over five years. He will spend three days in jail on December 22, the day of the incident, and three days in jail on Morin’s birthday, August 31…
