LUBBOCK, Texas — University Medical Center said recent cuts to Medicaid programs could cost them up to $107 million annually.
The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services is withholding billions in funding from Texas hospitals, largely because of the way Texas taxes hospitals. The federal government matches what is taxed from hospitals as part of CHIRP.
A CMS spokesperson told EverythingLubbock.com, “CMS is committed to ensuring that Medicaid funds are used appropriately and in accordance with federal law. The agency is working with all states to ensure compliance with both longstanding and recent statutory requirements and remains engaged with the state on these issues. CMS will continue to monitor the implementation of these changes and their potential impact on access to care for Medicaid beneficiaries.”…
