LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas Tech Junior and baton twirler Laney Whitefield was crowned Miss Lubbock 2024 on Sunday night at the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts.

Whitefield told EverythingLubbock.com on Monday that she decided to compete in the pageant because she grew up watching the Miss Texas pageant since she was little and realized she “had nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

The contestants competed in interview, fitness, evening gown and closed the night by answering a question about their community service initiative. Whitefield’s initiative was “Time2Unplug.” She explained this initiative meant a lot to her after being involved in three minor accidents caused by distracted driving.
