Texas moms fight for gun safety as children continue to die by gun violence, Lubbock expert weighs in

LUBBOCK, Texas– Robin Breed is a mom of two and a grandmother who worries about her kids and grandkids every day when they go to school. In 2022, almost 300 Texas children were killed by gun violence, according to a study by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

This is why Breed fights for gun safety legislation at the Texas State Capitol alongside a group of women who are all part of an organization called Moms Demand Action Texas. Breed decided to join the group after the shooting at Parkland High School in 2018 that killed 17 people.

“I wanted to be part of preventing another tragedy like that from ever happening,” Breed said.

Breed is a gun owner herself and doesn’t believe guns should completely go away, but she said she does believe in responsible gun ownership. She doesn’t want to have to keep worrying about her kids’ lives and her own life, too.

“We look for the exits. We look to see if security is present and we don’t have to live this way,” Breed said. “This is a crisis.”
