Opinion | RFK Jr. has no business representing disabled children

The man tasked with taking over the U.S. Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services told the world last April, “Autism destroys families.” Parents across the nation heard him describe the neurological and developmental disabilities their children were born with as “preventable.”

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the man who repeatedly villainizes the neurodivergent community in his anti-vax campaign, is now in charge of making sure schools comply with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the object of which is to provide equal opportunity to a public education through individually tailored needs.

The U.S. Department of Education announced the interagency changeover on June 16. The federal education agency will now partner with the federal health agency and the Department of Justice to oversee special education and students’ civil rights…
