New UW-Madison study suggests that digital memory checks can better spot early memory loss

MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) – We use our phones for just about everything, and now researchers say they may also help detect early memory loss.

A new study with about 200 older adults found that simple memory checks on a smartphone or tablet done at home every couple of weeks can spot subtle cognitive decline faster than traditional in-clinic tests.

Researchers from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison say people with mild cognitive impairment show measurable changes within about 6 months, while standard testing is often done only once or twice a year…
