It used to be when Michelle Wallace saw a woman at a barbecue function, she was the wife of the pitmaster or someone’s guest. She wasn’t tending the fire.
“We all famously know Tootsie (Tomanetz) in Texas, but there are very few women truly holding it down,” Wallace told the Cap Times during a recent interview from Houston, her hometown. “There are many times at an event where I might be the only woman whose name is on the banner.”
