Smoldering cardboard causes smoke scare at Madison store

MADISON, Wis. — A smoldering stack of cardboard caused a smoke scare Friday morning at a big-box store, the Madison Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded shortly before 8:40 a.m. to the store in the 2200 block of East Washington Avenue, near Demetral and James A. Graaskamp parks.

Engine Co. 8 met with the store manager and found the cardboard in an outdoor caged storage area. The fire caused minor charring to the store’s exterior brick wall…
